Marble is a naturally cool stone, making it incredibly resilient to the ambient heat of Houston summers and an excellent surface for baking or pastry work. Unlike quartz, which contains polymer resins that can scorch under direct heat from hot pans, natural marble handles temperature fluctuations beautifully. However, it is more porous than quartz, meaning it requires proper sealing to protect against moisture and humidity.

For most Memorial households, we recommend a professional-grade penetrating sealer every 12 to 18 months. High-traffic areas like the primary kitchen island may benefit from a quick touch-up every 6 months. Sealing is not a complex process—modern impregnating sealers can be wiped on and buffed off in under an hour, creating a microscopic barrier that repels water and oils.

Etching occurs when acidic substances—like lemon juice, tomato sauce, or certain wines—react with the calcium carbonate in the marble, leaving a dull, localized spot on the finish. To prevent it, always use cutting boards, wipe up acidic spills immediately, and use coasters for drinks. If an etch does occur, honed marble hides it much better than polished marble, and professional restoration can completely remove deeper etches.

Marble's structural integrity allows for highly intricate edge detailing. For a transitional or modern Memorial estate, a mitered edge (giving the illusion of a massive, thick block of stone) or a crisp eased edge is exceptionally popular. For traditional or Mediterranean architectures, an Ogee or Dupont profile highlights the stone's classical heritage. We fabricate all edges in-house to ensure absolute precision.

Once your custom slabs arrive at our fabrication facility, we schedule a digital templating appointment at your home using laser precision to map the exact dimensions, accounting for walls that aren't perfectly square. After templating, fabrication typically takes 7 to 14 days. The physical installation is usually completed in a single day by our master craftsmen, ensuring minimal disruption to your household.

Yes. While marble is highly durable, significant impacts on the edge can cause chipping. Our restoration specialists can seamlessly repair chips using color-matched epoxy resins and stone dust. Once cured and polished to match the surrounding stone, the repair is virtually invisible to the untrained eye, preserving the monolithic beauty of your countertop.
